Hailing from Arizona, Candice and Charlie are two buoyant, playful wild things, and they threw a party to flaunt it. They both are celebrators of all that is retro-kitsch and knew the very perfect place to represent that would be the Pearl Hotel in San Diego. With its midcentury style and vintage poolside charm, they sought a quirky, happy wedding full of immense laughter and silliness. I loved the way Candice played like a sassy wild thing in her dreamy chiffon off-the-shoulder retro gown and Charlie rocked his dapper bowtie while smiling from ear to ear all day (note he ditched the suit in favor of board shorts by about 9pm, scope it out later in the post!). Playing in the shag rugs, dancing in feathered shoes, and drinking all sorts of delicious tiki beverages was what this party was all about! Their first look was oh-so tender with a mixture of tears and laughter right in front of the hotel’s giant sign. This amaze day was also featured on Rock N Roll Bride. As a San Diego wedding photographer, I see a fair share of bridal parties, but when they’re such a sweet and enthusiastic group it makes a huge impression. Candice’s bridesmaids were such bright souls and so much fun in their aqua cocktail dresses and their colorful bouquets. They were total sass machines, constantly up to no good in the best way. We loved their vibrant spirits… they were so there for Candice, such a fun support team making sure the day felt right. They were also selfie queens. LOVE it.
Such a classic and yet retro San Diego wedding first look. His face says it ALL. And they have so much damn fun together it’s ridiculous. They’re among the most fun-filled couples we’ve ever had the good pleasure to work with.
They said their I dos in front of the utterly gorgeous succulent wall, and got all feelsy on us while doing so… and we loved every minute of it. That’s Candice’s dad rocking out as the desert cowboy officiant. Talk about special moments.
Loved their take on a guestbook—a custom surfboard that Charlie will for sure ride with pride. It’ll give him extra oomph in those epic tunnels.
Okay, we know, we’re going crazy for it, but talk about the right feel for tiki fun. Loved Candice’s creative idea for pineapple floral centerpieces and the signature cocktails in The Pearl’s greatest tiki mugs.
These two oh-so-in-love dreamboats danced poolside beneath the twinkle lights all night long. Swoon! Loved that they had their friends play live for their first dance. Finally, to cap the night off, with reckless abandon, these two bundles of crazy happiness leapt into the pool fully clothed. A day of endless joy and fun and silliness and good hearts. It gets us right here.
