It’s an impressive accomplishment to be equal parts ridiculous and tender, but Carl and Nicole have this balance worked out to perfection. Both awesomely talented dancers who are passionate about mischief, social issues, and food, I knew this wedding would be full of unexpected delights, and it most certainly did not disappoint. I’ve known Carl longer than I’ve known my husband, we first met in a dance class just about 16 years ago. Which means that this Bay Area wedding had an extra-special place in my heart. I got to see old friends, make new friends, and celebrate an immensity of joy that was all sorts of teary-eyed and wonderful.
The way they started out the day all agiggle getting ready together, toasting with good whiskey. The couldn’t-control-my-heart moment when in his vows he compared Nicole to a vast library (weak in the knees, all of us). The tender, quiet snuggling moments at every opportunity they had together, like the entire world disappeared. Erica’s (Carl’s sister) incredible speech and gift that had every eye at the reception flooded with tears (including my own). All the awesome parent jams on the dance floor. All the friends letting loose their funky soul magic. Such an incredible life and community that these two have already built and continue to build.
