Holy moly, these two have been together for 21 YEARS! They met in high school. Oh my heart. So they chose this Wednesday wedding date extra-specially: it was their 21st anniversary, so of course it lent itself to a super special celebration! This super creative pair (an illustrator and a designer!) filled their day with inventive energy, charming style, historic details, loving revelers, yumminess, and a team that rallied to really make it the best day ever for them.
We kicked off the day at the historic and lovely Courtyard by Marriott. It’s a wild property, as it’s a converted turn-of-the-century bank. And it has colossally great views of San Diego. What a fantastic spot for Diane to get ready! Rashid (who also goes by Sam, in case that’s confusing) got ready at home with his crew. We always love getting a taste for our clients’ vibe by shooting at home. They have so much cute energy.
Flora is just a couple of blocks away, so that meant we got to shoot portraits both in the neighborhood as well as throughout the old features of the hotel (aka bank). Even in the vault! Their crew was so supportive and playful and then getting to flora to experience its unique tropical-meets-modern magic. I love that they chose an unconventional spot for the ceremony—using the bookshelves as a backdrop so they could fill them with aspects of home and their relationship and make it all feel familiar, as though they were throwing the wedding at home. Their ceremony was so full of feels and heart and soul, and was followed by a colossal party!
The way they transformed the space for their reception was a VIBE. Purple for days and big dance energy, even for these two who definitely aren’t so keen on being the center of attention. Its actually really common, so many of my clients really love a big-energy party, but just don’t really want to be too much a focal point. I love the way they find the balance that works for them.
From the views of downtown San Diego to the colossal moves on the dance floor, I am so grateful to have witnessed all the love and laughter and tenderness.
