This was the kind of shoot that whisks you away to a faraway exotic land while also feeling laid-back and playful. We could not have had more fun creating this gorgeous celebration of midcentury modern Palm Springs style mixed with Mexico City culture and aesthetic. Working with Renée from Moxie Bright Events is always a pleasure but she outdid herself with her amazing vision for this editorial! First off, we are just beyond dazzled by the newest dream venue of LA that is Cty Libre. With an amazing view of the cityscape paired with such rad urban warehouse meets stylish midcentury garden… it’s irresistible!
Renée took inspiration from very specific elements of each city’s style, and then purposely gave them a modern twist. From our charmingly hand-lettered brushwork on the paper goods, to the perfect patterning in the appetizer styling, to the high-contrast bold blue and soft pinks in the tableware styling, every ounce of this creative endeavor absolutely charmed us. We especially loved the idea of unusual potted plants as favors, and the balance of secluded garden meets urban cityscape. Instead of using authentic Talavera Mexican tile in their usual square form, for the ceremony, Renée deconstructed the tile and mosaicked a trio of vintage arched windows to create a stunning and vibrant ceremony backdrop that felt like a fresh nod to a beautiful cultural aesthetic. The windows already had the distinctive archway of so many doorways in Mexico City, so it was a natural fit.
Bright fuschia Bougainvillea was our hero flower of choice, as it compliments the venue’s slate blue exterior, and grows freely in both of our inspiration cities. All of the colorful floral gorgeousness is the genius of Upton Grey Florals – the lush bouquet with tendrils of greenery, the ceremony installation of bold fresh greenery intertwined with the ceremony backdrop, the tabletop arrangements in bright vases and quirky, playful tones… and our very favorite: the incredible cocktail hour lounge. The shelves, the deep blues and soft pinks and fuchsias… so breathtaking!
Archive Rentals supplied such a variety of distinctive vintage pieces to complete our colorful Mexican midcentury modern theme. The amazing Jennie Cooks Catering provide delicious creative feasting and Cali Craft Cocktails create hip, unique, and amazingly yummy cocktails! Cakes by Colin knocked this one out of the park: the detail on the cake is styled after the famed Parker Palm Springs breeze block wall. And the bougainvillea on top? That’s completely edible and made out of SUGAR.
Our real couple, Chloe & Richard, had a ball re-living their wedding day with us! Chloe was over the moon about her Venai gown & veil, and the stunner of an engagement ring from Single Stone. Richard was thrilled to sample cocktails that packed a punch, and high-five his man of honor – or, rather, Dog of Honor, Bo! Who could resist a sweet pup in a floral collar? Our vendor team was SO thrilled to be the first styled shoot at this up-and-coming inspiring Los Angeles venue. Here’s to many more good times at City Libre!
