A Brit and an American walk into a bar. No, not a start of a joke—an actual circumstance that led to these two creative charmers getting totally hitched. James and Monica, sound guru and fashion maven, have a huge appreciation for the historic and charming. When they found The Oviatt Penthouse, they knew they’d found their dream wedding venue. They went all out on their art deco theme and filled their day with delightful details that celebrated their past and the past and led to an all-out wild night of dancing and partying into the wee hours, even despite being rained out on the rooftop. In fact, the rain just surged the wildness further. So, yeah, I’d call it a good day and then some. But before they beat the rain, we started the fun at the Los Angeles Athletic Club; this historic hotel set the perfect vintage tone for the day. Read on for more from this lil’ art deco adventure…
We kicked things off with plenty of giggles. Monica’s gorgeous Jenny Packman dress was perfectly vintage and just wowed, and we loved how she styled all her accessories to be true to that period. Her bridesmaids’ sweet pink frocks were too much adorable, too. I mean, those glittering chiffon capelets. COME ON.
On the rooftop of the Athletic Club with their reception venue in the distance, James and Monica saw each other for the first time, and it was magic. We lovelovelove that they joined each other in the middle, surrounded by skyscrapers. Crazy to think that in the early part of this century, at the time of its construction, their venue (that clock tower in the distance) was the very tallest building in the area.
Surrounded by the towering skyscrapers of downtown LA, it was an awesome mesh of vintage history and modern life to be seated at that ceremony. The Oviatt Penthouse provided a rich sense of gorgeous 1920s history, brimming with such gorgeous details from the past. From Monica’s sweet bouquet to the italian fountains to the checkerboard dance floor the unique details added up to a beautiful story paying homage to a time fondly remembered.
ZOMG YOU GUYS the giant marque lights love sign. It is the living end! Man, even when we got rained out during the reception (but rather fortunately right after the first dance) everyone bound together and brought the energy of the party indoors.
Hee hee… still giggling about James slipping his headshot onto this wall of fame. I wonder how long before staff at the Oviatt spotted it? :p
These dance maniacs were a joy to photograph and the wild day was wonderful from start to finish.
This wedding was also featured on Ruffled, so head on over there if you want to see more photos of this dreamy day!
