Amanda and Franco are such tender, warm souls. When Amanda first met Franco on a rugged group trek, she got googly-eyed enough to decide to learn his language—sign language, that is. Many years later after acquiring both an adorable daughter and a puppy, and a home in Colorado, these two decided it was time to make things official. This wedding in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains (Fort Collins, CO) was full of amazing expression and gesture because not only is Franco deaf, but so is the majority of his community. A deaf wedding was a whole different kind of gestural adventure for me, and it was an amazing opportunity to learn more about the deaf community and how they celebrate and communicate. Tenderly and with great enthusiasm!
The Tapestry House, a grand historic Victorian estate filled with charming details and surrounded by forest and mountains, served as the incredible natural backdrop. Amanda’s lace mermaid gown was darling, but I loved how she brought in her personality by flaunting her super sassy cowboy boots. And her sweet little blue-eyed cutie matched her perfectly! Her gorgeous hair was swept into a long side French braid, and I just loved the eclectic mix of styles and vibes for this day—for example, Franco’s suiting was so much fun with a fabulous purple paisley shirt and bow tie. These two lovers exchanged a tender first look full of the ASL sign for I Love You. Then their adorable daughter sprinkled the aisle with rose petals and these two were wed under a gazebo amidst towering Colorado pines. There was something extra-special about this union, and the joke Franco’s uncle made nailed their differences: He never though he’d see the day that a bear and an eagle would make a life together (their respective football teams).
The reception had a playful and kid-friendly vibe with wish rocks hand-painted by the bride and her daughter and a wild Colorado sunset cake (how cool is that, right?). The guests were encouraged to get silly with party props, and to shake their things on the dance floor to an awesome live band, needless to say that is exactly what they did! Laughing and boogieing into the night, this magical day was the perfect mountainy shindig!
