When I meet with most clients, we usually spend quite a bit of time getting to know each other. That’s part of why I love my job—I get to meet awesome people from all walks of life, but better yet, I’m given an opportunity to really get to know them, which is kind of my jam. When not from nearby, we can just Skype or FaceTime. Of course every so often, we don’t even get to do that. When Brent reached out to me, we only had the chance to chat on the phone once. I never met him or Brandy, and truthfully learned very little about them. So it was with immense delight and ample fabulousness that I discovered what totally awesome people they are, right on the day of their seaside Marina Del Rey wedding.
Leading with the loosely asian theme of the restaurant, I loved the little details they brought together. They didn’t splash out on the most expensive and extravagant decor, but these charming lanterns had such a great impact. The quirky, charming nature of Shanghai Red’s, with its koi fish and waterfalls and lanterns all came together so oddly perfectly for these two.
So, turned out, this tattooed, high-energy cutie was pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. I turned a corner and suddenly saw a satellite of love in dizzy orbit. We were tucked away on the other side of the building, getting ready. Brandy would be sure to giggle and wave in her sweetly vintage dress at every passer-by, and cry out: “I’m getting married, today!” She was so full of sweetness and sugar and spice and snazziness! I also approved of how much no good these ladies would get up to. All the best antics. AND THOSE FABULOUS SHOES. The guys were quiet. He wasn’t particularly forthcoming with emotion. And then she appeared at the head of the aisle, bubbly with tears, and he transformed—into something radiant. When people have that kind of transformational impact on one another, it gives me the warmest fuzzies.
Laughter and merriment was nonstop throughout this whole day. The snazzy colorful wayfarers didn’t hurt, either. Best wedding favors ever? Could be! Yes, that’s us watching a seal catch his meal, and seagulls threaten us overhead.
And then, love. Vibrant red, glowing, kissing, laughing, frowning, tender, snuggling, rosy love. Watching these two together filled me with a big ol’ happiness that left me smiling long after the wedding was done. AND ALL THE SUNNIES! I should probably tone down all this usage of all-caps, but that’s how much fun this was!
This is why I love shooting gatherings so much. So many energetic people come together to pool their bits of happiness together, and throw a hell of a happy event. Even the kids throw their two cents in. Maybe, especially. These ones kept me on my toes, quite literally. Man, it was a dancing *throwdown*. It was just the right day. Just right for these two. Just right for the people they rallied all around themselves. Just right indeed.
